The 55th Madaraka Day is happening this weekend. As it is the norm, this is the day that Kenya commemorates attaining internal self-rule in 1963, preceding full independence from Great Britain on December 12 that year. This year’s national celebrations will be held in Meru County, led by the president.

This means Nairobi will be less eventful this coming weekend but it doesn’t have to be. We’ve got some plans for you.  If you’re looking to have fun or relax with your friends and family, there are few exciting things to do in Gigiri, or in its vicinity.

The most popular ones include; the Artcaffe, East, Khazana, Mambo gelato, Nyama mama, Orchid, Osteria, Planet yogurt, Pomodoro, Prime cuts, Revive juice bar, Rocomamas, Sofra, Taste of Africa, Thai village, Urban gourmet burgers and Zucchini greengrocers.

  1. Nature trails at Karura Forest

Baiskeli Adventures hosting at Trip at Karura

For those who love nature trails, Karura Forest is one of the best spots to have an intimate experience with mother nature. Whether it’s jogging, biking, hiking or picnic trips with your loved ones, Karura is the ideal place where you can have it all. Some of the best features include the waterfall, caves, indigenous trees, pretty valley, lily lake and a river among others. The charges are friendly – Ksh 100 for Kenya Citizens  & $6 for foreigners. The management has maintained the place quite clean, especially with the plastic bottles ban that took effect in 2017.  Walking the longest track (15km) seems like half the distance as you get lost in nature.
